Album of the day: US Christmas – The Valley Path

Lovingly pinched from About.com: Heavy Metal: USX (or U.S. Christmas, for those in a jolly mood) has never sacrificed their artistic vision for success or publicity, and this streak continues with The Valley Path. Consisting of just one 40-minute title track, this is USX’s most ambitious project to date. Years in the making, The Valley Path is a progressive fan’s wet dream. Extended instrumentals, a vivid atmosphere, and the occasional self-indulgent moment are part of the band’s massive undertaking following their last album, Run Thick In The Night.

Be forewarned: this is not something to pop in and play under a tight schedule. Not only does the material suffer, but it’s a determent in getting the full effect USX looks to get across. From the very moment the sounds of lush nature surround the mix, a full commitment has to be made for the album to click. For many, this type of pledge is impossible, which is why The Valley Path will have a select niche following it.
