Terrorizer: José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band of the Week – Acid Witch

Posted on Sunday, March 8th, 2015

As this year’s Roadburn Festival draws ever nearer, it’s time to continue our countdown by taking a look at everyone’s favourite dead beat burnouts, Acid Witch – and as vocalist Shagrat admits, “What better place to be a dead beat burnout than at Roadburn?”

“I think the Roadburn festival holds a special fascination for American fans of heavy music because The Netherlands is viewed as the stoner capital of world! What better place to be a dead beat burnout than at Roadburn?” Shagrat pertinently questions when we ask him about the significance of playing Roadburn for Acid Witch.

He’s right – there’s no better place. “It is also the birthplace of one of my favorite film directors, Paul Verhoeven, who coincidentally made a masterpiece of a film about our hometown Detroit in 1986 called ‘Robocop’! Unfortunately we will only be able to attend Saturday night of the festival but I am personally very excited to see Zombi, Fields Of The Nephilim and of course the legend that is Goblin. It really is amazing in our minds to be able to warm up a crowd for them. I can’t wait to get our set over so we can go be fans, grab a beer and some buds and nerd out over the ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ live score!

Rejoice, for your weekly Roadburn guide is back! No longer shall you roam the endless halls of the 013 come Tilburg’s delightful month of April, peeking shyly at the rooms with fear of committing yourself to any show, cursing Terrorizer for not having suggested awesome bands to look out for […]

José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band Of The Week: Napalm Death (Terrorizer)

Posted on Monday, March 24th, 2014

What, you mean you’ve heard of these kids already? Damn it, here I was thinking I’d blow your mind with something new… bands get popular really quickly these days! What have Napalm Death whatever done to warrant this much attention then? It’s not like they’ve defined grindcore, or invented the […]

José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band Of The Week: 40 Watt Sun (Terrorizer)

Posted on Monday, March 24th, 2014

As we’ve seen so far in this series of articles about Roadburn bands, from all the statements the musicians have kindly provided us, the festival isn’t just special for the audience. The previously praised blending between audience, artists and staff that takes place at Roadburn to a degree that no […]

José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band Of The Week: 15 Years Of Exile On Mainstream (Terrorizer)

Posted on Monday, March 10th, 2014

Such is the appeal of Roadburn that its wide, welcoming arms hold enough space for other events to unfold inside it. Besides the usual curators, sometimes a whole day is dedicated to a festival within a festival, like they did for instance with Beyond The Pale (the festival put together […]

José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band Of The Week: Goatess (Terrorizer)

Posted on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

Want another thing Roadburn’s good at? I got plenty still. You’d think it’s difficult to come up with some different form of praise for the festival every week for these intros, but only if you’ve never been there. It’s actually the opposite – there aren’t many weeks left to the […]

José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band Of The Week: Aqua Nebula Oscillator (Terrorizer)

Posted on Tuesday, February 25th, 2014

So here’s my promise, a psych band this week. The reason I don’t focus so much on this sort of band before the festival takes place has nothing to do with any lesser importance – in fact, truth be told, they’re more or less at the origin of Roadburn’s roots […]

José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band Of The Week: Graves At Sea (Terrorizer)

Posted on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014

I know, I know, I haven’t been tending too much to the more psychedelic, mind-expanding side of the Roadburn line-up. What can I do, I’m a sucker for nasty music and Roadburn is accommodating enough to feature enough sludge horror for me to fill up almost every week with it. […]

José Carlos Santos’ Roadburn Band Of The Week: Seirom (Terrorizer)

So there’s the 013 with its Main Stage, Green Room and Stage01, the opposing Het Patronaat replacing the now closed Midi Theater, and the V39 acting as host to all the merch tables, you’d think that’s more than enough for a three / four day festival, right? Well, wrong. The […]
