Lovingly pinched from About.com: Heavy Metal: It’s been four years since the mighty Electric Wizard brewed up a full-length album in Black Masses. As the Wiz’s devoted fan base awaited their return in the form of new album Time to Die, the band itself took on a different form.
Jus Oborn and Liz Buckingham remain the core of the stoner doom outfit, but found a new bassist in Clayton Burgess of Satan’s Satyrs, an American in his early 20s no less! That development is far less dramatic than the situation behind the kit and on the business side.
Longtime drummer Mark Greening, who had left to form Ramesses many years ago, rejoined Electric Wizard long enough to record Time to Die. But the volatile relationship fractured and Greening was unceremoniously replaced by Simon Poole.
On the business end, they ended their relationship with their former record label and are releasing Time To Die on their own Witchfinder Records (distributed by Spinefarm).
But we’re not here for the drama, we’re here for the music. Evil, loud, dark and frightening music. Time to Die is not a departure from the band’s modus operandi, but Burgess and Greening do shade the corners with a different hue of cruelty and menace.
