Album of the day: Iron Man – Generation Void (Re-release)

Lovingly pinched from Doommantia: Generation Void was/is Iron Man’s third album that was originally was released in 1999 on Brainticket Records. Shadow Kingdom have already re-released the first two albums by this classic doom band from Maryland and now have finally done the same with Generation Void.

Along with the original release, there are four extra tracks added but the real killer is the bonus DVD of Iron Man playing live at Phantasmagoria in Wheaton, Maryland. The packaging is excellent and it is selling for a fair price too so no fan can afford to miss out on this.

I have no idea how long this DVD included package will last so I would jump on it fast if I was you. Originally released in 1999, the album was weak by Iron Man standards but with the inclusion of the DVD and bonus tracks, it kind of seals the deal for this re-release.

Without a doubt Generation Void was one of the bands most Black Sabbath inspired moments. The guitar tone of Alfred Morris III is straight from ‘Master of Reality’ Sabbath and they even take the Sabbath worship one step further by using the same kind of simple bone-charring demonic riffage that Tony Iommi made famous with songs like Into The Void and Sweet Leaf.’ As an album, this recording is start to finish bluesy doom metal and total old school.
