Hello friends, welcome to the Roadburn Festival.
This is a gathering of like minded bands and fans from around the world, joined together by a love of music. This is a celebration of tube-driven distortion and crackling electric guitars, a raising of musical consciousness and brotherly and sisterly love, a communion with THEE MIGHTY RIFF, a time and place to get high en mass and bask in the heaviness.
Since 1999 we at Roadburn have emphasized the cutting edge, honored the forefathers, and worshipped the riff. The 2008 Festival is a perfect reflection of what we have always been about.

We have invited DAVID TIBET to curate a special long-day-event as part of the 13th annual Roadburn Festival, which will take place April 20, 2008, at the 013 Club in Tilburg, The Netherlands [Doors open: 15.00hrs - Start: 16.00hrs].
David Tibet comments: "I am delighted and ecstatic to announce the full line-up of the artists playing at the day I was invited to curate at the Roadburn Festival. Appearing at the show will be: ÆTHENOR, BABY DEE, CURRENT 93, HUSH ARBORS & SKITLIV. I am so excited! And I am so happy!"

"I am honoured to include ÆTHENOR in the line-up. I met Stephen O'Malley some years ago, and we became friends. I slowly became aware of how remarkable and extensive is his work and collaborative projects. One of my favourites amongst them is Æthenor, comprising Stephen, Daniel O'Sullivan and Vincent de Roguin, whose brooding, primeval, dark alchemical epics are full of a ferocious intensity, sounding more like a starlit night being ripped open by lightning than a musical group".

"Intelligent and primal, like a dæmonic workshop, battering up Pandemoniums and dreaming of gold and murder, Æthenor are spectacular. For this rare live show Æthenor will be joined by some very special guests, including Ulver vocalist, Kristoffer Rygg."
"I was introduced to BABY DEE's world and work some years ago by Antony, when he sent me a cassette tape with Baby Dee on one side and William Basinski on the other. What a great tape that was; I fell in love with both of their creations! Dee and I became friends, and she started working with, and playing in, Current 93. My label Durtro released her first two albums, as well as a recent compilation, and her new album [Safe Inside The Day] is just out on Drag City."

"When she played with Marc Almond last year, I wrote this: "NYC titty bar dancer, church organist, accordionist, street-theatre tricycle-riding harpist, carnival side-show bilateral hermaphrodite, tree-worker, freak-show musician, an epiphanic at Anne Frank's house. I love Baby Dee's music more than I can say. I think that you will too."
Founded in 1982 by David Tibet, Current 93 has created a highly personal musical and æsthetic entity over 23 years, subliminal and dramatic, an opulent and complex music made of psychedelic Coptic jazz, distorted folk memories, apocalyptic ballads, gothic chorals, nursery rhymes and Roman electronics.
Tibet's musical influences are wildly diverse, ranging from psychedelic rock bands from Ramases to Patripassian, from Gregorian Chant to Sahidic Threnodies.

Current 93's sound varies, according to Tibet's choice of collaborators, but it has oscillated between apocalyptic tape loops, minimal piano-and-voice settings, electronic hymns, massed drone attacks and children singing at the end of the world, whilst always featuring Tibet's own idiosyncratic singing and guitar playing.
David Tibet has worked with Steven Stapleton [Nurse With Wound), Antony and the Johnsons, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Marc Almond, folk goddess Shirley Collins, Stephen O'Malley, Attila Csihar, Andrew W.K., horror writer Thomas Ligotti, Nick Cave and Ben Chasny [Six Organs of Admittance] and many others artists.
In the absence of Rickie Lee Jones, Current 93 will now be playing a specially lengthened set and Hush Arbors will also be playing a solo set. Current 93's set will consist of material from early albums such as NATURE UNVEILED, DOGS BLOOD RISING, IMPERIUM and CHRIST AND THE PALE QUEENS, as well as C93's most recent work.

We are delighted to announce that Hush Arbors will now appear in place of Rickie Lee Jones as special guest act. Hush Arbors is one of David's favourite artists, and for the Roadburn Festival he will be playing a solo set.
While known for his work with Six Organs Of Admittance, Sunburned Hand Of The Man and Wooden Wand And The Vanishing Voice, as Hush Arbors Keith Wood is more than deserving of recognition as a solo performer in his own right. Like a free-folk Neil Young, he combines the sweetest singing voice with frenetic music.

"I am delighted to announce that Skitliv, led by vocalist Maniac have been added to the Roadburn event." David has been working with Maniac recently and loves their music and is very happy indeed they will be appearing with C93 and friends.
Maniac comments: "I can't even begin to describe what taking part in David Tibet's special day at the Roadburn Festival means to me. I can genuinely say that I have admired David and Current 93 for many, many years, and the idea of working with them has been a long held dream.
I finally had the pleasure of meeting David during my recent stay in the UK, and within the space of a few months that dream is being realised. And as for the rest of the eclectic line up that David has pulled together - well, it doesn’t get any better than that. Performing in that line up will be an honour. Watching them perform will be one of my life's great pleasures."

At the forefront of Black Metal from its very beginnings, Maniac is one of the extreme metal genre's most recognizable figures, whose controversial live performances have made him a figurehead in the world’s media. Having left Mayhem, where he was restricted to writing lyrics and performing vocals, Maniac went on to form Skitlive in 2004, as a means of expressing his views on humanity and its inevitable destruction.
The legendary front man has never been someone who cares about public opinion, or about staying within the rigid confines that define Black Metal; and whilst essentially still firmly rooted in the genre, Skitliv’s music has matured and evolved into something much darker, and more brooding, than anything Maniac has produced before.
Tickets are on sale and cost € 32,50 for the day.
