For the last two years, we have looked down south and focussed on Belgium, together with one of the country’s foremost bookings agencies, RuffStuffMusic. Belgium remains such a fertile breeding ground – this hotbed of musical creativity ranges from tech-core and shoegaze to post-rock, and virtually everything in between – that we will welcome some exciting, cutting edge bands, hailing from our proverbial backyard, for the third year in a row.
Handpicked by RuffstuffMusic, we offer Bear, Hedonist, Lotus, Mantis and Slow Crush the chance to connect with our international community alongside Roadburn’s established acts, during intimate performances at Cul de Sac on Saturday, April 22.
Brutal, twisted, relentless, and neck breaking with unbelivable technical percesion, tech-core extremists Bear alternate between Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge and Between The Buried And Me. Brace yourself, as Bear’s forthcoming, and third full-length, appropriately titled III, will ensure mathy chaos, only to tear down Cul de Sac in a rage!
To put it plain and simple – thunderous power trio Hedonist loves to suckerpunch us straight in the face with their sonic assault of Motörhead meets High On Fire. No nonsense, no bullshit, no fancy gimmicks, just pure, honest, kick-ass rock-n’-roll. Don’t drop your brew.
Firmly rooted in the underbelly of the European hardcore scene, Lotus, hailing from the city of Antwerp, are poised to live and die by the minute-and-a-bit – it’s their short discharges of boundless energy, combined with crushing breakdowns and angst-riddled vocals, that will leave deep scars. Don’t back off!
Influenced by the likes of Russian Circles, At The Drive-In and Deafheaven, Mantis tackles the challenges of instrumental post rock – their subtle approach, but also infectious and cathartic energy, speaks volumes for the band’s progressive imprint on this thrilling genre.
Currently one of the most exciting underground bands to emerge from Belgium, Slow Crush channels influences from shoegaze to indie and post-punk. Intense, heartfelt, melodic, and utterly hypnotic, this promissing four piece delivers a beguiling urgency, while coping with negativity and failure in a f*cked up world at the same time.
With such a thriving sonic cosmos that is Belgium, they have so much to be proud of, and in collaboration with RuffStuffMusic, we’re beyond excited once more, to host such up and coming talents at Roadburn 2017.
Roadburn Festival 2017 will take place April 20-23 at the 013 venue, Tilburg, The Netherlands. Tickets are now on sale!
