Roadburn’s Album of the Day has become a tradition. Now that the year is drawing to a close, we here at Roadburn HQ want to invite our loyal readers, friends, associates and anyone who might have wandered in to help us compile a list of favorite records released in 2013.
The year was filled with tons of great avant-metal, psychedelica, heavy ’70s, space rock, drone, ambient and doom-metal releases, and it will be interesting to see how it narrows down to 10 favorites.
Add your top 10 Roadburn-worthy albums to the comments section and we’ll do the rest. Please be sure to post your picks by Sunday, January 5th. We’ll unveil the final list for 2013 in the second week of the New Year.
Album of the Day will return on Tuesday, January 7th.

Ah, the Afterburner. This particular little part of Roadburn always deserves a special mention, as some of the younger / first-time Roadburners still tend to treat it as a sort of afterthought, and some of them, especially when travelling, even avoid it altogether. Well, take it from your elders – […]

The Day After The Sabbath is a blog specialising in regular compilations of obscure heavy 60s and 70s rock. It’s Rich Aftersabbth’s aim to reveal the secret world of bands that were inspired by the early psychedelic, doom and hard rock greats but were too short-lived, un-commercial or just plain […]

Next year’s Roadburn festival (April 10 – 12) is sold out! We are so proud to have such a loyal audience. Of course, we look forward to welcoming all of you first-time visitors, too. The 2014 edition of the festival is shaping up to be absolutely incredible. Thank you for […]

A few more Roadburn lessons for the uninitiated: Roadburn’s (ever-growing) eclecticism is by now firmly established, even to first-timers who have been reading these posts. However, it is possible to grossly generalize the type of bands attending the festival each here in two major categories – the trippy ones and […]

Lovingly pinched from From the Dust Returned: There were quite a number of things conspiring against my enjoyment of Seremonia‘s sophomore Ihminen (‘human’ if my poor translation skill haven’t failed me yet again). For one, the record is front-ended by a number of exceedingly familiar, bluesy Sabbath-like chord progressions that, […]

Praise for Bardo Pond‘s Peace On Venus from San Francisco’s aQuarius Records: Very little has changed in the Bardo Pond camp, even after all these many years, and nearly as many records. And we’re grateful for that. Peace On Venus is another collection of stunning, sprawling, spaced out heavy psych […]

Lovingly pinched from Sea of Tranquility: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Free, Humble Pie, Grand Funk Railroad, Cactus… all well respected and highly influential bands from the early ’70s heavy rock scene, but there’s another act who were just as important but never seemed to get the acclaim, and that […]

Lovingly pinched from The Obelisk: Birthed in a not-at-all cosmic reality known as Columbus, Ohio, the four-piece space rock outfit EYE nonetheless execute their sound with classical majesty on their sophomore full-length, Second Sight. Their first outing, 2011′s Center of the Sun, was gorgeous enough to get the attention of […]

Lovingly pinched from The Sleeping Shaman: Raw Power was released in 1973. Joe Cardamone, singer, songwriter and leader of The Icarus Line, wasn’t even born. His new album, Slave Vows, released 40 years after the Stooges’ masterpiece, brings the idea of Raw Power full circle. It’s fair to say he […]
