Roadburn’s Album of the Day has become a tradition. Now that the year is drawing to a close, we here at Roadburn HQ want to invite our loyal readers, friends, associates and anyone who might have wandered in to help us compile a list of favorite records released in 2012.
The year was filled with tons of great doom, drone, psychedelica, heavy ’70s, space rock, post rock and avant-metal releases, and it will be interesting to see how it narrows down to 10 favorites.
Add your top 10 Roadburn-worthy albums to the comments section and we’ll do the rest. Please be sure to post your picks by Wednesday, January 2nd. We’ll unveil the final list for 2012 in the second week of the New Year.

Baroness‘s John Baizley and Pete Adams share an acoustic performance of ‘Stretchmarker’ down below. The clip, recorded in Baizley‘s Philadelphia art studio, marks the first performance the band members have shared since their horrific bus accident in August. “Simply put: it’s time to get back to it. Since my belated […]

The Day After The Sabbath is a blog specialising in regular compilations of obscure heavy 60s and 70s rock. It’s Rich’ aim to reveal the secret world of bands that were inspired by the early psychedelic, doom and hard rock greats but were too short-lived, un-commercial or just plain unlucky […]

Lovingly pinched from Pitchfork: I’m slightly ashamed to say that, until earlier this year, I’d more or less written off Italy’s Forgotten Tomb as a gothy clone of the Swedish black metallers Shining. It took seeing a spellbinding live performance in Germany and the arrival of their latest album to […]

Praise for Troubled Horse‘s Step Inside from San Francisco’s aQuarius Records: The new, five years in the making Witchcraft album is indeed awesome. But OLD Witchcraft, we still love too of course. So how ’bout some new old Witchcraft, sort of, in the form of the long awaited full-length debut […]

Lovingly pinched from Teeth of the Divine: One of the better releases of late 2012, Snakereigns is a strong album overflowing with punk-laden black & roll rife with aggression and attitude. Sporting a meaty, angry sound and songs full of energy, the execution of Oslo’s Okkultokrati lies somewhere between vintage […]

Lovingly pinched from The Sleeping Shaman: With all the doom metal also-rans that are lining up to bore the casual listener these days, you’d think that someone would have a crack at recapturing the spirit of Hellhound Records. Bar Pallbearer, who do a half decent Revelation impression, there really is […]

Lovingly pinched from Metal Underground: Underjordisk Tusmørke means “Subterranean Twilight” in Norwegian. As such, it’s no shocker that this is literally and metaphorically underground music. The charm lies in the fact that this isn’t just underground by 2012’s standards — this is underground by the standards of the late 1960s, […]
