Roadburn Festival 2012: Tickets

Tickets for Roadburn 2012 will go on sale Saturday, November 26th, 10:00 Central European Time

09:00hrs (UK), 11:00hrs (Finland | Greece), 4AM (east coast), 1AM (west coast)

3-day passes: € 177,50 + service fees (1000 available)
4-day passes, including Afterburner:  € 197,50  + service fees (1500 available)
Single tickets for the traditional Afterburner event: € 32,50  + service fees (500 available)

There will be a 2 ticket limit (per order) for 3-day and 4-day passes and Afterburner tickets. Due to changes in the Dutch law there has been a tax increase of 13% on tickets for ‘cultural activities’, which means that concert tickets, for instance, no longer carry a 6% VAT surcharge but a 19% VAT surcharge..

The authorized online ticket site is TICKETMASTER (Netherlands). We strongly advise against buying your tickets from other (online) ticket services. Counterfeit tickets will not be accepted.

Attention online buyers: be sure to create your Ticketmaster.nl account in advance. That way you can save your information and avoid extra time-consuming steps when you log on to purchase your tickets when they go on sale on November 26th.

BUY YOUR TICKETS AT OFFICIAL SALES POINTS

In the Netherlands, tickets will be sold at the 013 box office, the main post offices, the Free Record Shop, Official Ticket Shops, Sounds Tilburg or call the ticket hotline: T 0900 300 12 50 (€ 0.45 per minute)

Please note: in previous years we have been forced to confiscate tickets that were purchased from an unauthorized sales point. There are dozens of ticket broker sites that are more than happy to offer tickets at inflated prices, and in many cases they are not even authentic Roadburn tickets. We sincerely regret that we cannot admit you to the festival if you are in possession of what proves to be a counterfeit ticket. Do yourself a favour and purchase your tickets from the official sales points listed above.

    4 days before payday :(

      Groet!
      Jurgen

Translated.. “Too bad you can not come but fortunately there are plenty of those people who have this amount for this program.”

I am terribly sorry to read this, because yes it is true, there will always be 2.500 people willing to pay any price for such a first class event. The ticket’s price was 100 E indeed a few years back and besides this the tickets’ number has been increased from 1.500 to 2.500 I think, so we’re talking about a completely different budget. People are complaining but yes, their complaints are justified. The VAT increase is an important issue but a few years back you significantly increased the price because of the midi theater, while afterwards it had to do with the high costs of overseas flights. And this is a clear 100% increase since Bongripper’s main event, Fleshpress and Coroner have all been placed in the afterburner! Fleshpress and Bongripper’s “Satan Worshiping Doom” in the afterburner? Why? Roadburn has always been a “consumer-friendly” event but before my / our eyes it got unjustifiably expensive.

Hi Doomdog, I’m sorry you feel this way but in the course of the years we’ve had to make some decisions that have cost us visitors but gained us visitors as well.
For one we now have 4 days with a full program with al sorts of music, not just stoner rock/doom as we started out with.
Next to that we have chosen for more bands to make the festival as good and complete as possible. In a world where everything is getting more expensive (so the bands/venue as well) this will reflect in the price.
If you don’t want to pay the (still relatively low) price for what is on offer that is your choice. We respect you in that. I hope you respect us in our choices.
Just as in the beginning we are creating a festival we ourselves want to go to, and it still is.

  4. Roadburn says:

in the last couple of years, the increase was based on various reasons: a) adding another venue to the festival (midi theatre), b) flights were getting more expensive, c) the production of roadburn got more expensive as we have to handle / accommodate over 80 bands now. we have always been very open about it, and i have written many, many heartfelt editorials about this.

there has been an increase of 13% compared to last year. it’s the mandatory tax raise on concert tickets here in the netherlands. it’s a hard fact we have te deal with, plus all the other festivals and venues as well. every concert ticket, whether it’s for roadburn, or any given show here in the netherlands has been raised with 13%.it’s a nightmare for every venue and theatre.

we’re still going to use either the midi theatre (if it stays open) or another 600 capacity venue really nearby (patronaat, opposite of the 013 venue). we still have to deal with an increase of the flights, we still invite / handle approx 80 bands. all those costs stay the very same.

we’re not bull shitting anyone. do your math, and find out that the initial ticketprice is almost the very same as it was in 2011 -it’s the tax raise that hurts us all.

Last year about 2000 of our attendeens purchased tickets for all 4 days. they want to exprience roadburn in full, and we want the afterburner to be just as good as any of the other days at roadburn.

roadburn is a break even festival, and we need to sell every ticket to get the festival going. we don’t want to lose the 600 capacity room in favour of a cheaper ticket, we don’t want to cut back on bands, we want roadburn to evolve, we want to pursue our artistic path.

please note that we are a proudly independent event that does not rely on corporate sponsorship. most of roadburn festival’s budget (approx. 70%) is spent on the entire production for the sake of the bands -so we can actually witness all these amazing shows.

As far as I see it (but I’m an old fart who can afford taking the plane to the Netherlands anyway), the problem is not value for money, it is that it is impossible to catch all that the festival has to offer in any case. If ticket prices increase, my first reaction would probably be «hope this means less chances of missing the purchase due to some internet connection failure».

If Roadburn wishes to cut costs, I would still be happy with a somewhat reduced number of bands on the bill. You could easily compensate by offering some of them longer slot, or two gigs (like have already been done — maybe even one matiné and one night the same day if the band is up to it, if Tilburg’s hotel capacity is an issue).

  5. tazje says:

Maybe it would be nice to have dayticket for people that want to see Ulver and Solstafir but can’t afford a 4 day ticket. 197,50 is extremely high anyways. festivals with more or bigger names charge no more that 150 for 3 days including 5 overnight stays (camping). I go to festivals not even charging 100 euro’s for 4 days including 6 days stay, because I simply can’t afford more. Now the bands finally come close to home and my chances of seeing them are ruined by ticketprices that can only happen in the netherlands. Thanks for ruining a great festival for a lot of people. And don’t think everyone will respond to this price and give you comments etc. Most of them will just say f*ck off and go somewhere else to see the same bands a lot cheaper, but I for one think it’s our right to see these band for a reasonable price in our own town or at least close by for once.

    • Hi Tazje, I’m sorry you feel that way. You say you have a right to see those bands? Sounds strange to me. Do I have the right to say that Black Sabbath or Queens Of The Stone Age must play Roadburn? I don’t think so. And you talk about other festivals: you know how many visitors they have (say Lowlands here in The Netherlands where you pay 200 euro as well).
Ours is a niche festival which is carefully curated by Walter and me and the curator (Voivod). We think the festival is best consumed as a whole, not picking one or two bands and only see them. Luckily that is our right as festival organisers. You have the right to go elsewhere and see the bands cheaper.
      Jurgen

      • Nico says:

Haha, “we think the festival is best consumed…”

Your pockets are best filled with 3day tickets, because (mostly) thursday mostly gets ‘left behind’ and does not sell out that easy! –> less €€€

        Plus…
not only we have to pay 177euro, but with 4 venues it’s hardly possible to see all the bands one wants to see.

Roadburn sells out in 15-30 minutes. As long as people are stupid enough to pay whatever price, you will make it more and more expensive.

  6. Mark says:

Do you guys not do single day tickets? I only want to come on the day that Sleep play, is that possible

  7. Martin says:

    Hello,
do i have more chances to have a ticket by going to Holland and buy it from a shop (i’m from Belgium) or by the Internet ?

Cheers guys, thanks for the amazing line up :)
