Album of the day: Oresund Space Collective – Entering into the Space Country
Posted on Saturday, October 29th, 2011
Lovingly pinched from Sea of Tranquility: The Oresund Space Collective are a very busy band and have come out with yet another release Entering into the Space Country, this one limited to vinyl. They have had no less than four releases thus far in 2011. The band has seen many musicians pass through their doors since the project began in 2004 by founding member Scott Heller, aka Dr. Space (synths). Other mainstays include Mogens (synths) and Tobias Peterson (guitars).

I think the focus on this release is predominantly a guitar sound. Sure the synth lines and effects are there but what defines this record, at least to me, is the guitar and with four or five guitarists playing on each track that should come as no surprise. That said, fans of the band will not be surprised as they know what to expect; excellent space rock that is seemingly dug out from the early ’70s and transformed into something fresh and exciting while still retaining elements of the early space rock pioneers.
Entering into the Space Country consists of three songs, the first being the twenty-two minute epic ‘Born Between Stars’. The guitar chords shimmer as the darker hued synths wind their way through the soundscape and the music starts to build. The band continue on their improvisational journey with the guitars being the focal point creating an immense atmosphere of sound.

Album of the day: Giant Squid – Cenotes
Posted on Thursday, October 27th, 2011
Lovingly pinched from Sputnikmusic: Giant Squid are a slippery bunch. Attempting to pin Giant Squid’s sound ...read more
