Lovingly pinched from Metal UK: Falloch are a very new band having only formed in 2010. The duo take their name from their natural environment, namely the Falls of Falloch waterfall in Crianlarich Scotland. Typing this into an image search you will see that the nature of the area is quite stunning and it is no surprise that musically the players replicate things with nature inspired and lush blackened metal and folk inspired post rock with plenty going on within it to both calm the listener at the right times and then jolt them back to life as though they have suddenly been immersed under the heaving torrents of the waterfall itself.

The evocative strains of opener ‘We Are Gathering Dust’ seep in then explode with a passionate clamour reminiscent of the pounding fervour of a band like Primordial. Vocals are however a million miles away, clean and emotive and more reminiscent of a rock band than anything metal. The inward looking reflective nature that the music has taken does at first surprise and the song meanders into acoustic fretwork and the gentle ebb of water flowing peacefully along.
Apparently the duo of Andy Marshall and Scott McLean wanted to convey themes of nostalgia, sorrow, nature and longing within their music and this somewhat dream-laden and shoe gazing progressive feel certainly does the job. Of course the storm is coming and arrives as drums batter in driving the song away till again it floats off into concluding strains a full nine minutes after it began. The duo have no problems as far as constructing epic songs are concerned, they occasionally build bridges with instrumental interludes such as ‘Horizons’ which like it’s lengthier predecessor the albums title song, atmospherically bring pipes into play entrancing the listener and drawing them warmly to the arms of bonnie Scotland.
