R.I.P. Guus van Hove, General Manager 013 Venue

Posted on Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

We’re grieving, and completely lost for words at the tragic news that Guus van Hove and his wife have died during their travels in the USA.

Guus was the general manager of the 013 venue, and he guided us through every step of the way in the setting up of Roadburn Festival at the venue, and his, and his wife’s loss on a personal level is also beyond measure.

His legacy is deeply embedded into Roadburn Festival, and we will endeavour to make sure it continues.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his, and her family, friends and (all my fellow collegues at)  the 013 venue.

Walter on behalf on Jurgen, Yvonne and Roadburn.

Album of the day: The Wounded Kings – In The Chapel Of The Black Hand

Posted on Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from The Sleeping Shaman: The Wounded Kings have returned from the mist soaked gossima moors of the West Country with a new doom opus  In The Chapel Of The Black Hand. Cast from shadows, the resplendent velvet clad Steve Mills in his Fender haze, has once again emerged […]

Album of the day: Ash Borer – Ash Borer (LP)

Posted on Monday, August 15th, 2011

Praise for Ash Borer‘ S/T from San Francisco’s aQuarius Records:  What is it with bands not naming records? We’re all for the ‘self titled’ record, but when they’re ALL self titled, it gets a little confusing. By record number two or three at least start numbering ’em, fer chrissakes. Anyway, […]

Posted on Monday, August 15th, 2011

Every Monday morning we’ll post a kick-ass song to get your week going. Here’s one we discovered in the vaults. An amazing video by Dante Della Maggiore.

Album of the day: Noothgrush – Failing Early, Failing Often

Posted on Sunday, August 14th, 2011

Praise for Noothgrush‘s Failing Early, Failing Often from San Francisco’s aQuarius Records: Available again, this killer compilation of early material from legendary Bay area slo-mo sludge / doom crushers Noothgrush, who recently reformed and are about to play a show with the also together-again East Coast doomlords Winter. Back in the […]

Album of the day: Today Is The Day – Pain Is A Warning

Posted on Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from Metal There’s Prog – ironically, a developed subgenre with its own set of conventions and clichés – and then there’s truly progressive. Few bands deserve that tag more than Today Is The Day, whose relatively unassuming name deceptively masks the twisted, psychotic musical violence found within […]

Album of the day: Pikacyu*Makoto – OM Sweet Home – We Are Shining Stars From Darkside

Posted on Friday, August 12th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from The Sleeping Shaman: We’re not sure where to begin with this one so let’s start from the outside and work our way in to the contents of the CD. Firstly, this is a side project of Kawabata Makoto, the illusive leader of Japanese pysch-rock lunatics Acid Mothers […]

Album of the day: Wolves In The Throne Room – Celestial Lineage

Posted on Thursday, August 11th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from CVLT Nation: The tension worldwide is palpable as Wolves In The Throne Room prepare to release their fourth full length album Celestial Lineage (Southern Lord). Expectations for this album are high to say the least. WITTR quickly rose to prominence with their 2007 LP Two Hunters. The […]

Album of the day: Zebulon Pike – Space Is The Corpse Of Time

Posted on Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Praise for Zebulon Pike‘s Space Is The Corpse Of Time from San Francisco’s aQuarius Records: All kinds of awesomeness here on this new Zebulon Pike album, their fourth, and the Minnesota instrumental math metal stoner doom post-rock space-rock (whew!) combo’s first full-length in like three years. It’s also their first […]

Album of the day: AUN – Black Pyramid

Posted on Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from Roughly inspired by the strange and beautiful sci-fi / fantasy worlds of French artist, writer, and director Enki Bilal, AUN’s Black Pyramid is an album of drones and tones that kidnaps the imagination and takes it on a fantastic journey. The cover art features a floating […]
