Brendan Perry: Tomorrow’s Child Is The Only Child (by Transylvanian Hungerrr)

An evening with Brendan Perry

An eternity with Dead Can Dance

Dead Can Dance. Three small words that put together mean absolutely nothing to most of the world, but they mean the world to a lucky few. You are what you listen. Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard. Two people who happened to cross paths, and have created an incredibly beautiful Universe, the perfect escape from both everything that surrounds us including ourselves, a space of refuge where nostalgia and hope dance together.

I will never be fully convinced if they are everything they could have been, if they made it or not. Dead Can Dance has had a very strange story, mostly because people discovered them after Lisa and Brendan split. It made things really hard for the fans, many who never saw them live until 2005 and most not even then. One thing is certain though: beyond any doubt, this name was and will always stand as one of the most beautiful and enchanting musical entities ever created.

Whoever loves Dead Can Dance gets it. It’s strange how discovering them can turn into a bittersweet experience, because once you dive into their alluring discography, at one point you will realize (and later come to accept) that nothing can top it, that there’s nothing else out there quite as exquisite and completely fragile yet so in credibly varied, dazzling and sumptuous.

Not too long ago the most incredible news reached my ears: Dead Can Dance will be back in 2012, with both a brand new album and a world tour. On May 31st I had the honor of meeting Brendan Perry here in New York City. Below, my interview with one of the most incredible artists of our times. Enjoy –Stefan Raduta / Transylvanian Hungerrr.
