Milwaukee’s Utech Fest: In Pics/Video (by Stefan Raduta)

Last weekend (6/11) I attended the first edition of Utech Festival in Milwaukee. Having been bewildered by Mamiffer at this year’s Roadburn, as soon as I saw their name on the bill I bought my plane ticket… they were joined on stage by two other phenomenal acts, Locrian and Horseback, both of whom would totally fit Roadburn like a glove.

Mamiffer/House Of Low Culture and Locrian were to perform again two nights later in Chicago so I decided to extend the trip, especially since Wolvserpent were to play the night in between and that’s another act I’ve been eager to see.

It’s always refreshing to see something different, and as of late I’m getting so much more into things outside of the metal realm. Very impressed by all the acts present, from seeing William Fowler Collins play his guitar with a paint brush (and managing to sound like the desert, literally creating weather) to the explosive Locrian performance or the rocking as hell Horseback set.

When it comes to Mamiffer, those who saw them at Roadburn were somewhat privileged, because they played as a 5 piece, whereas now they’re just 3 on stage… still a haunting experience. Congratulations to Keith for putting this thing together, hopefully more will follow, and to all the artists present.

Nice review. You mention Collins sounding like the “dessert” but am sure you probably meant “desert”. ;)
