WFMU’s Diane’s Kamikaze Fun Machine Roadburn Recap Available on Demand
Posted on Wednesday, May 4th, 2011
WFMU‘s Diane went to the Netherlands for Roadburn 2011 and all the listeners at home got was a lousy radio special! In addition to music from the bands she had the opportunity to see, the PLAYLIST includes photos, and you just might also hear a story or two about camping ...read more
Roadburn Festival 2011 – Day 1 (Transylvanian Hungerrr Blog by Stefan Raduta)
Posted on Wednesday, May 4th, 2011
Man, I had to live it to believe it…a few weeks later and back at being displaced in New York City, welcomed by a spring that almost seems too beautiful to be true, I’m forced to embrace work and bills – things are returning to normal. But now that it’s ...read more
Album of the day: Ulver – Wars Of The Roses
Posted on Wednesday, May 4th, 2011
Lovingly pinched from Terrorizer: Ulver are anything but predictable. From black metal purists to cathartic soundscapes, their entire career serves as a lesson in both musical evolution and experimentation. Wars Of The Roses, the band’s eighth studio album, is their first since they began touring just shy of two years ...read more
Terrorizer: Kat’s Band Of The Week: Black Oath
Posted on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011
Find out why Kat over at Terrorizer picked Black Oath as band of the week. Italy has a rich history in occult rock and doom metal, which is heavily steeped in a sinister, mysterious and evil atmosphere, ever since now-cult bands such as Death SS, Paul Chain and Black Hole ...read more
NPR Listen Now: Agalloch In Concert (Download Available)
Posted on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011
“We’ve played a tiny village in Belgium three times, but we’ve never played the grandest city in America until tonight,” John Haughm said between “Into the Painted Grey” and “Falling Snow” at Agalloch‘s first-ever live performance in New York City (March 22, 2011) in its 15-year history. Surrounded by banners ...read more
Album of the day: Lento – Icon
Posted on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011
Lovingly pinched from Lurker: When it comes to heavy music, it’s not often you find technical and textural complexity on the same record. Bands tend to go for one (extreme example: Origin) or the other (any drone doom), with only a select few, like Gorguts, successfully marrying the two. What ...read more
Roadburn 2011, Tilburg, The Netherlands – Day 2 (By The Sleeping Shaman)
Posted on Monday, May 2nd, 2011
Second day of Roadburn and I was DEFINITELY feeling the vibe today, after a shaky start yesterday. I’ll put that down to my being tired and nowhere NEAR drunk enough to get my buzz on. Situation remedied and first on my hitlist today was Keiji Haino. I’ve seen Haino on ...read more
Album of the day: Indian – Guiltless
Posted on Monday, May 2nd, 2011
Lovingly pinched from Revolver Magazine: Chicago quintet Indian surpass Relapse Records labelmates Cough as the modern monarchs of Electric Wizard-worship on their fourth full-length, Guiltless. But whereas Cough often sound like a straight-up tribute band, Indian bring a unique perspective to their dopesmoking doom. In particular, vocalist-guitarist Will Lindsay’s experience ...read more
