Album of the day: Tombs – Path Of Totality

Posted on Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from The Bone Reader: Few are those that understand the depth of meaning involving the ancient rite of  ‘olah – known to many as a simply a “burnt offering”. It is a type of Biblical sacrifice, specifically an animal sacrifice in which the entire sacrifice is completely burnt, ...read more

Dopethrone’s Dark Foil Available For Streaming Via Bandcamp

Posted on Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

You can hear and pay-to-download Dopethrone‘s latest offering, Dark Foil, via the band’s bandcamp page. “Their debut was already huge and powerful, but this one is litterally the sound of a black planet of tar falling into your head. They take the cue from (durrrr) Electric Wizard, Eyehategod, Fistula, Buzzov*en, Grief, ...read more

Album of the day: Valborg – Barbarian

Posted on Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from Metal Review: Dissecting a Valborg release–or Valborg in general–is a daunting dask. Unquestionably, they’re one of the weirdest bands in metal; but not in that bullshit, pseudo-avant-garde, watch-us-set-ourselves-on-fire! Unexpect vein. No, Valborg deploys their oddity far more subtly, but that doesn’t make them any less difficult to ...read more

Album of the day: Buzzov*en – …At A Loss

Posted on Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from The Obelisk: The band’s original 1998 swansong, …At a Loss can be taken two ways when put in the context of Buzzov*en’s catalog as a whole. On the one hand, it’s the Wilmington, North Carolina, outfit’s most coherent offering in terms of songcraft, use of structure, and ...read more

Album of the day: Heinali & Matt Finney – Dreamcatcher (Digital Download)

Posted on Monday, May 16th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from Lurker: Distances of thousands of miles are clearly no obstacle for our favourite ambient duo. In fact, it could be argued that it’s a blessing for the prolific Heinali & Matt Finney. Heinali grinds away the hours holed up in his bedroom studio in darkest Ukraine, pumping ...read more

Album of the day: Gentleman’s Pistols – At Her Majesty’s Pleasure

Posted on Sunday, May 15th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from Uber Rock: Leeds’ finest retro rockers Gentleman’s Pistols will be familiar to those who frequent sweaty rock bars and clubs around the country, as they’ve been a welcome fixture on that circuit for a few years now. They’ve also pleasured the crowds at the last couple of ...read more

Album of the day: Horseback – The Gorgon Tongue

Posted on Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Lovingly pinched from ALARM Press: Jenks Miller is the sole constant in avant-metal outfit Horseback. Miller’s output — occasionally under his own name, often as Horseback, and recently with the Americana group Mount Moriah — has been a steady trickle over the past three years, with each release offering a ...read more
