Terrorizer’s band of the day: Altar of Plagues

Find out why our good friends over at Terrorizer picked Altar of Plagues as band of the day: Irish act Altar Of Plagues may have formed in 2006 but it wasn't until a live stint in London with Wolves In The Throne Room that we fell madly in love with the ambient, proggy, post-black metal (or whatever else you want to call them, their music is so much more than all those definers!) youngsters. Even they themselves can’t decide, they consider themselves to be black metal, but have also been quoted to take influence from acts as diverse as Emperor, Bjork, and Arvo Pärt. That gorgeous sense of straddling many genres has seen them tour and play with bands as diverse as Mayhem and Isis.

Their Profound Lore album White Tomb became collectively one of our favourite albums of 2009 and now 2010 is proving to be an even more promising year for the act, with a forthcoming EP release on Roadburn Records as well as appearing at the festival alongside Enslaved, Goatsnake and Shrinebuilder. Not only they they’ve talked of more extensive touring and just recently, signed to Candlelight Records. Top one lads! Hopefully a new album will sate our appetite for the Irish melancholy soon.
