Roadburn Festival tickets: Patience is a virtue

Roadburn 2010

Roadburn 2010

“Patience is a virtue”? That sounds pretty dull. Kind of square. Not too rock ‘n’ roll, huh? Just a little patience, that was Axl’s bag, and look where it got him!

But listen, dear Roadburners: there are some people out there who don’t give a damn about our festival. They just know that there’s money to be made and they want to package their greed as a service to you.

Recently we discovered a baffling message on a Dutch ticket broker’s site. Ticketforsale.nl is offering you the chance to buy tickets to Roadburn 2010 for the price of 175 euros. What they neglect to mention is that tickets to Roadburn 2010 are not on sale yet! They have not even been printed.

Of course, they try to get around this with some vague wording about “reserve the number of tickets you want now and you will be sure not to miss out.” Also, the ticket price for Roadburn 2010 has not been announced. But you can be sure that Ticketforsale.nl and other broker sites are jacking up the prices. These are not charity organizations. One person’s “convenience” is another person’s scalping.

The ticketforsale.nl site’s FAQ section explains: “Why the difference in price?

Because the price of the ticket is determined by supply and demand, the prices charged by ticketforsale.nl are higher than the price listed on the ticket in most cases. However, do keep in mind that the price also reflects the effort that ticketforsale.nl put into obtaining these tickets for you.” [source: http://www.ticketforsale.nl/faq/?menuId=6]

Okay, we live in a supply and demand driven society. If ticketforsale.nl wants to snap up some tickets and turn around and re-sell them, legally it is difficult to say what recourse is available. Ethics and business rarely go hand in hand, and unfortunately that has trickled down to a relatively small festival that has grown fiercely popular among dedicated fans around the world.

So what can you do?

Well, ticketforsale.nl had 50 non-existent tickets selling for 175 euros a piece plus shipping and handling fees a few days ago. Now there are 47.

We are currently busy trying to develop a ticket sales system that works effectively and to the benefit of those who sincerely want to attend Roadburn 2010.

Please do Roadburn a favor, and do yourself a favor: have a little patience and wait for more information from us (Roadburn & the 013 venue) about tickets, prices, the pre-sale date and so forth. Thanks!

Dan is de kans groot dat ticketforsale gaat proberen om zoveel mogelijk kaarten op te kopen op de dag van de voorverkoop. Hopelijk kan de organisatie of de ticketservice hier iets tegen doen.

  2. Alex says:

Make the festival ticketless like Hardrock Hell in the UK. They send email confirmation which you then print out and use as your ticket. You then exchange it for a wristband at the festival using your passport as ID. As far as I know, this makes it impossible for agencies to buy the tickets because quite simply, there are no actual tickets! Personally, I would prefer to print my own ticket than take the risk of agencies buying them and selling them at over the top prices.

I have a better idea: Sell the tickets at 175 euro and give every visitor a refund (60 euro, 70 euro … whatever the rea price might be).

That way, Ticketforsale.nl won’t be able to make any profits.

    Just think about it

    Alex August 21, 2009 : YEP, that’s a very good idea!
Or a Roadburn membership for live!

I think you need to assosciate a ticket with a buyer at the time of purchase. I think this would discourage a lot of bulk buying scalpers – how can they hope to resell 50 tickets with no name on them? Or even worse a ticket identified as being purchased by, for example, ticketforsale.nl? Some suggestions are you could print the purchaser’s name on the ticket, somehow record & associate the ticket number with the purchaser, or even, as Alex suggested, send them a personalised email confirmation

This may take a little more work to implement when producing tickets but I’m sure the genuine punters would be happy to wait a little longer or pay a little more for their ticket. Not only would it guarantee them a ticket at the right price but they’d also get to enjoy the festival with an audience of dedicated & genuinely sincere music lovers.

I really hope you find a solution that works for everybody, I’m on my way from Australia next year & REALLY don’t want to have to buy from (support) a f***ing scalper just so I can go.

Hope to see you all there! \m/

Nou hoop ik dat de 013 maar vooral Roadburn tegengaan dat al die grote ticket companies niet voor nog meer geld tickets gaan verkopen en zo iedereen naaien!
Een eerlijk festival voor eerlijke mensen!

E-mail confirmation keeps those hellhounds out. Thanx to those leeches It’s been two years since I’ve been to Roadburn.

  9. marc says:

Personaliseer het ticket en hou id controle aan de ingang.
Dit veroorzaakt vertraging de eerste dag maar dan kan geen tickets verder verkocht worden.
Gebeurt nu reeds bij sommige festivals in België.

  10. Roadburn says:

  12. Giorgio says:

Yesterday I’ve booked two tickets via Ticketmaster.nl. I noticed that there’s my name and surname on both tickets, but OF COURSE one of the two tickets will be used by another person. Am I going to expect any problem with that? Sorry for the silly question :)

  13. Roadburn says:

no problem, you have to turn in your ticketvoucher for wristbands at 013’s box-office, so you’ll get two wristbands
