Din Brad – Debut album details
Posted on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Din Brad (Negura Bunget’s Negru’s personal view on the Romanian traditional music) is proud to announce Dor as the name of its debut album. Dor is an unique Romanian word concept describing a fundamental characteristic of the local spirit.
Dor is your heart longing for something you had and lost, longing for something you wished yet never had, longing for a person, a place, a time… Dor reflects a Romanian mythical time, same as Plai reflects a Romanian mythical space. As a first step in the exploration of local traditional soundscape the Dor album is composed out of two distinct elements.

Pitchfork rates The Mars Volta’s Octahedron: 6
Posted on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Look, here’s the deal: If you don’t know what you’re getting into with a new Mars Volta record at this point, after seven years and five albums (plus one EP and a live thing or two), then my advice is to go directly to full-length numero uno, 2003’s De-Loused in ...read more

Posted on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Lovingly pinched from one of our favourite websites: Ever been inside a snowstorm? Listened to televisions on max volume while they’re playing static? Been chased through space by a screaming banshee? Well probably not the last one, but the next best thing to that experience one of the most ...read more

Album of the day: Earthride – Taming Of The Demons
Posted on Monday, June 29th, 2009
(From our archives): Coming at you like a quaalude-wasted, stone-drunk biker, the latest Earthride CD is a doomed, bluesy ride that doesn’t let up. Thick, warm, tube-amped guitars from Kyle Van Steinburg, and a wall of bottom end from bassist Joe Ruthvin, combine with steady doom rock grooves from Eric ...read more

Have you ever thought that Sunn o))) would be great if they had more than one interesting musical idea?
Did you ever wish that The Heads made more records like “33″?
Album of the day: Harvey Milk – Life… The Best Game in Town
Posted on Saturday, June 27th, 2009
On their fifth full length, the Athens quartet of Harvey Milk continues to meander with meaty riffs and oppressive slabs of stoner-esque tomfoolery.
The bands distinct delivery, which respectfully and lovingly both emulates and encapsulates southern rock, features slow, down-tuned guitars, whiskey and cigarette soaked vocals, thick bass and crashing drums.
Featuring ...read more
Album of the day: Umbra Nihil – The Borderland Rituals
Posted on Friday, June 26th, 2009
(From our archives): Finnish doom of the weird variety. I guess that’s a self-fulfilling prophecy — since it’s Finnish doom, of course it’s weird! At times Umbra Nihil’s music feels almost acoustic because of the big spacious mix, although there are definitely electric instruments being played. Other times there are ...read more
